Diyar Nurgozhay didn’t come close to making weight for his first UFC fight.
The recent Contender Series signing tipped the scales at 210.5 pounds, 4.5 pounds over the limit (including the one-pound allowance for a non-title fight) for his main card light heavyweight bout with Brendson Ribeiro at UFC Vegas 104 on Saturday. Ribeiro successfully made weight at 205.5 pounds.
It is not yet known if the bout will proceed as a catchweight and, if so, what percentage of Nurgozhay’s purse will be forfeited as penalty.
UFC Vegas 104 headliners Marvin Vettori and Roman Dolidze made weight without issue, with both coming in at 186 pounds for their rematch. Vettori defeated Dolidze via unanimous decision in their first meeting at UFC 286 in March 2023.
Two other fighters missed weight for Saturday’s event, welterweight Chidi Njokuani and bantamweight Josias Musasa. Njokuani came in at 172.25 pounds, 1.25 pounds over the limit, while Musasa came in at 136.5 pounds, 0.5 pounds over the limit.
The status of Njokuani and Musasa’s respective bouts with Elizeu Zaleski and Carlos Vera are to be determined.
