After he faces Michael Chandler at UFC 314, Paddy Pimblett would be more than open to facing Dustin Poirier next.
Pimblett faces Chandler in the five-round co-main event at the April 12 pay-per-view event in Miami. Obviously, a win over Chandler would be the biggest of his career, and should Poirier need a dance partner for his retirement fight later this year, Pimblett would be thrilled at the opportunity — although “The Baddy” is questioning why the former interim lightweight champion would call it a career.
“Well he said something about me the other day, didn’t he? Saying that it’s legends only, and said he thinks Chandler will beat me,” Pimblett told ESPN. “I think he should have more than one fight, he looked good in his last fight. I don’t understand why you’d retire when you look good, but he must be an idiot.
“But yeah, I think I beat Dustin Poirier, so I’d love to fight him.”
Pimblett is undefeated in the UFC and is coming off of a quick submission victory in his most recent bout against King Green at UFC 304 this past July.
With the lightweight divisional landscape being what it is, a win over Chandler could open a lot of doors for Pimblet — which is something he also recognizes. A championship bout against Islam Makhachev could come sooner than most think should he defeat Chandler at UFC 314.
“I’m looking forward to beating him, taking his ranking,” Pimblett said. “And then, personally, I think I’m one fight away from a title shot, beat Charles [Oliveira], or Poirier, and I’m there fighting for the belt.”
