ONE 172 marked the promotion’s return to Japan at Saitama Super Arena and all three MMA bouts on the card ended in the first round.
Adriano Moraes took on Yuya Wakamatsu for the flyweight title, which became vacant following Demetrious Johnson’s retirement, and was stopped in under four minutes.
Wakamatsu took the center of the ring early and connected a big right hand and an uppercut that caught Moraes’ attention. They clinched to slow down the action, exchanging knees to the body, and Wakamatsu blasted the Brazilian as they separated. The finish came a minute later, with Wakamatsu landing a furious combination with nasty uppercuts that dropped Moraes. Wakamatsu continued the onslaught until the referee stopped it at the 3:39 mark.
With legendary Ryo Chonan in his corner, “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu now rides a four-fight winning streak after avenging a 2022 submission defeat to Moraes.
What a SHOCK Yuya Wakamatsu avenges his loss to Adriano Moraes by astonishing first-round TKO to win the ONE Flyweight MMA World Championship!

The second-to-last MMA match of the card featured a fourth clash between Shinya Aoki and Eduard Folayang, again with “Tobikan Judan” coming out victorious with another first-round submission against Folayang. Folayang stopped the first takedown attempt and made Aoki pay with a trio of knees to the body, but Aoki decided to pull guard and immediately attack the left arm of Folayang for a nasty armbar.

The first MMA clash of the show saw Adrian Lee improve to 3-0 as a professional with a 63-second anaconda choke finish over Takeharu Ogawa.
The striking portion of the card had Rodtang Jitmuangnon scoring a spectacular first-round knockout in a highly-anticipated kickboxing main event with Takeru Segawa, flooring him with a vicious left hand. UFC veteran and former ONE bantamweight champion John Lineker also competed in kickboxing, losing a split decision to Hiroki Akimoto.
