Alexia Thainara made an impressive debut on short notice at UFC London in what now serves as the final fight of Molly McCann’s career.
The Brazilian scored an early takedown and then took McCann’s back to lock on the rear naked choke to get the tap late in the opening round. As soon as the fight was over, Thainara celebrated her victory while McCann removed her gloves before announcing her retirement from the sport.

“UFC, Dana [White], Hunter [Campbell], Mick [Maynard], f*cking I love all of yous,” McCann shouted to the London crowd. “I give you all my f*cking heart and soul.
“It’s not good enough. The UFC deserves more. I deserve more. You all deserve more. Thank you and good night, UFC.”
If this really is the end for McCann, she retires with a 14-8 record overall including a 7-7 run in the UFC. Her friend and teammate Paddy Pimblett was noticeably teary eyed in the crowd as she made her announcement.
As for Thainara, she gets her UFC career off to an emphatic start after she took McCann down early in the opening round, although the Liverpool native did a good job jabbing away at her with elbows from the bottom.
It was short-lived success for McCann, however, with Thainara eventually breaking through her guard and slipping into side control and then eventually taking the back. From there, Thainara nearly locked on the rear-naked choke but McCann fought her off well enough to survive.
Unfortunately for McCann, a moment later Thainara adjusted her position and this time secured the arm under the chin to get the choke locked on and the tap came a second later. She now says hello to new start in the UFC while McCann says goodbye.
“This is Alexia delivery,” Thainara said after her win. “The UFC has the best matchmakers. I came, I saw, I delivered.”
