Brazilian flyweights Karine Silva and Dione Barbosa will meet at UFC 319, which goes down Aug. 16 in Chicago, after JJ Aldrich was forced off the card due to undisclosed reasons. Multiple people with knowledge of the change confirmed the news to MMA Fighting following a report from Ag. Fight.
Silva and Barbosa went the distance in the Brazilian circuit back in 2019, with Barbosa winning a decision to improve to 3-0 as a professional and drop Silva to 9-4.
Silva, now 18-5 as a professional, looks to get back on track after suffering her first loss since, a decision against Viviane Araujo this past November. She won four in a row in the UFC prior to the setback, including a trio of stoppages over Poliana Botelho, Ketlen Souza and Maryna Moroz.
Barbosa (8-3) only joined the UFC after a win over Rainn Guerrero at Dana White’s Contender Series in late 2023, and recently pocketed a $50,000 bonus for a first-round submission over Diana Belbita after a 1-1 start in the promotion.
UFC 319 will be headlined by a middleweight championship clash between Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev, with Aaron Pico debuting in the co-main event slot versus Lerone Murphy.
