Tony Ferguson’s GFL debut is (permanently?) on pause, but that doesn’t mean he’s finished with Dillon Danis.

The two were scheduled to be part of the GFL’s two-event opening on May 24 and May 25, only to see the matchup fall through when the league announced those events were canceled with no update on when or if they might be rescheduled. That left Ferguson, Danis, and numerous other notable signings from the MMA world in the cold.

On Monday, Ferguson tweeted that he has fight news coming soon, making sure to mention Danis in his comment.

“Danis still gon’ get demolished,” Ferguson wrote.

The tweet also included a brief video, featuring a quote from Miley Cyrus, saying, “The journey is usually the part that you remember anyways,” signifying the rough patch of losses Ferguson is currently in, as well as a clip of seals honking on a dock, signifying... well, that’s anybody’s guess.

Ferguson, 41, is currently on an eight-fight losing streak dating back to June 2019. The one-time interim UFC lightweight champion parted ways with the promotion this past August following a first-round submission loss to Michael Chiesa.

Soon after signing with GFL, Ferguson was paired up with the 31-year-old Danis in what was meant to be a Team Los Angeles vs. Team New York matchup. Danis, a former jiu-jitsu competition standout, has rarely competed since making the move into MMA and boxing. He went 2-0 inside the Bellator cage with a pair of submission wins, but hasn’t fought in MMA since 2019. He has recorded one boxing appearance, losing a farcical fight with Logan Paul in October 2023 that ended with Danis being disqualified after attempting a takedown and an illegal choke.

Danis was to box social media influencer KSI on March 21, but that bout was postponed due to an illness on KSI’s side.
