Jon Jones hasn’t signed on to fight Tom Aspinall, but that hasn’t stopped him from frequently jabbing Aspinall over social media.

Despite insisting he has no interest in unifying their titles—Jones currently holds undisputed UFC heavyweight champion status, while Aspinall holds an interim title and the No. 1 spot in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings—“Bones” continues to mock Aspinall, with his latest taunt in response to an interview Aspinall did with MMA legend Demetrious Johnson.

Aspinall told Johnson he is not waiting for Jones and simply wants a chance to be recognized as undisputed champion. In response, Jones left a message for Aspinall on a Verdict MMA Instagram post, writing, “Shut your mouth and do as you’re told.”

Jones, 37, has offered no timetable as to when or if he will compete again, seemingly content to leave the heavyweight division to twist in the wind. Prior to winning a heavyweight title in 2023, Jones carved out his place in history with a stunning run atop the light heavyweight division, which included 14 championship bout victories and wins over a list of legends. He is 28-1 in his career, with his lone loss coming via disqualification to Matt Hamill. He also has a no-contest on his record as a result of a win over Daniel Cormier being overturned due to a failed drug test.

Though Jones’ accomplishments are immense, many have become fed up with his late-career antics, with some fans calling for him to be stripped of his UFC title and fighters like Robert Whittaker expressing their boredom with the whole Jones-Aspinall saga.

Aspinall, 32, is approaching a year of inactivity, with his most recent fight taking place in July 2024 at UFC 304. At that event in his native England, Aspinall defeated Curtis Blaydes in 60 seconds to avenge his lone UFC loss, which came via freak injury. Aspinall is 8-1 in the UFC with all of those victories coming by way of knockout or submission.
