
Gilbert Burns is staying positive.
On Saturday, Burns lost in the main event of UFC Vegas 106, getting stopped by Michael Morales in the first round. The loss is Burns’s fourth in a row, and raised questions from fans about how much more the 38-year-old has left to give the sport. But “Durinho” appears undeterred.
On Sunday morning, Burns issued his first statement since the loss, with a message of thanks and praise for Morales.
“Thankful for this journey! I’m still super blessed! Of course, it] wasn’t the outcome I was looking forward to, especially for this one. I work extremely hard, who saw, saw, but it’s the fight game and it’s life! Congrats to Michael Morales, wishing you and your team all the success! That’s is it no sad stories! Grateful for this beautiful journey and for all the lessons! God is good all the time! All honors, praise, and glory are given to him in a win or defeat! ”
A world champion in both gi and no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Burns is also a one-time welterweight title challenger, falling short against Kamaru Usman for the belt at UFC 258. His overall MMA record stands at 22-9.
