Dana White is moving on from Conor McGregor for now.
In an interview with Adam Glyn, White was asked for an update on the status of McGregor, who hasn’t fought since breaking his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
White had previously been optimistic about “The Notorious” returning in 2025, but now the future is unclear for the UFC star.
“He’s not fighting anytime soon,” White said. “I haven’t talked to him in a minute, but yeah, I don’t know.”
McGregor’s comeback has been complicated by a number of factors. In addition to pursuing opportunities outside of fighting, including a starring role in the 2024 remake of Road House, McGregor also suffered a toe injury that forced him out of a scheduled bout with Michael Chandler this past June.
The 36-year-old Irishman was also recently found liable for sexual assault in a civil suit tied to a 2018 incident in Dublin and is currently dealing with a another civil suit for an alleged sexual assault in Miami in 2023.
Mcgregor has posted training footage to his social media, but it’s unclear if this signals any actual inclination to fight again.
White is always on the lookout for new stars, though he doesn’t expect any fighter to follow in the same footsteps as McGregor.
“There will never be another Conor McGregor,” White said. “There will be another superstar that pops up, but there will never be another Conor McGregor. There will never be another Ronda Rousey, there will never be another Chuck Liddell, ‘GSP.’ Somebody will pop up.”
“They make themselves. A hundred percent. We find people who have talent and obviously if you have the personality that all those other people have that we were just talking about, that’s incredible, but I’m always just looking for the best fighters in the world and the rest is up to them.”
