Ex-UFC heavyweight Maurice Greene is adding to his resume outside the cage after landing a featured role in the new horror film Him, which is being produced by Academy Award winner Jordan Peele.
The first trailer for Him dropped on Friday with Greene making a terrifying appearance midway through the footage with the veteran fighter appearing with blood on his face during a training session with lead star Tyriq Withers.
The film also stars Marlon Wayans, Tim Heidecker, Australian comic Jim Jefferies plus Greene and hip hop star Guapdad 4000 as well as Grammy nominee Tierra Whack, with the latter three making their feature film debuts.
Him follows Withers as Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life, and identity, to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma.
Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White (Wayans), a legendary eight-time championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White (Julia Fox; Uncut Gems, No Sudden Move). But as Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.
Him is directed by Justin Tipping based on a Black List script from writers Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie with Peele on board as an executive producer through his Monkeypaw Productions label withi the film being distributed by Universal Pictures.
Check out the new trailer for Him to catch Greene’s appearance and get ready for the film to land in theaters on Sept. 19.
