Stranger things have happened than the UFC possibly working with the FBI, though I’m struggling to think of an example off the top of my head.

Yes, you read correctly, newly instated FBI director Kash Patel is reportedly planning to have the agency start consulting with the UFC to better prepare its agents for field work. I don’t recall Mulder and Scully ever having to break out a juji gatame to help them subdue the latest monster of the week, but it’s 2025 and no story seems implausible.

I’m going to assume Mr. Patel won’t be sending his people UFC Fight Pass coupon codes and telling them to study Khabib Nurmagomedov’s greatest hits, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a few jokes about what this means for everyone’s favorite fighting promotion and, dare I say, the very fabric of America.

In this week’s MMA News Wrap-Up, we take a look at some of the best comments from you, the readers, and the other buzz-worthy stories of the week.

We're trying to cut down on government spending...but let's give the UFC a government contract to teach the FBI jujitsu. Just stamp the word "sucker" on every voter's head.
Idiots.

TheSesameStreetCount
Really?! At the same time they're absolutely gutting government spending they're going to toss UFC money to train FBI agents? This is peak shenanigans, obviously a cheaper better option would be to partner with local gyms, and also why do FBI need to do MMA? They're paper guys not foot soldiers.

fixedsys
they don't do MMA, they will trane UFC

shagafoo
Can't wait to see the FBI agents fall on their backs and try to invite criminals into their guard.

Alexander Volkanovski says retirement is looming: ‘How much longer do I want to do this to myself?’

Fans aren’t exactly rushing to their bookies to bet that Alexander Volkanovski is a sure thing to regain the UFC featherweight title.

Igl00Man
I'd say if he loses to Lopes, he should call it career in the cage.
His spot in the Hall of Fame is more or less already secured, and even should he lose to Lopes, I don't think that'll be impacted whatsoever.

chandlerdt
The writing is now on the wall. When you start discussing retirement exit plans, you are no longer [fully] vested in the venture you partake in.
He will come out flat, get out hustled and lose a split decision.

mburtoni
Time to put some $ on Lopes

Chucs
Ladies and gentlemen your new UFC champion... Diego Lopes.
When fighters start talking about it, a part of them has already accepted it they are already out the door.

Tank Davis explains why he took a knee during 9th round; Lamont Roach responds

So, how is everyone feeling about Tank’s excuse?

Shake Junt
sorry dude, but "i just got my hair did" isn't written into the rules as an exception.

Phalanx7
He should be called Septic Tank, cos that some

iamthekeyboardwarrior
That's some incompetent BS. The ref was horrible. Roach was robbed of a legacy win. Disgusting.

UFC targeting ‘fewer events’ at APEX in 2025 with plans to hold more international shows

The general response to the possibility of the UFC hosting less events at the APEX?: We’ll believe it when we see it.

Nicolas Caged
I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the funds for renovations went toward Dana's secret underground lair. Which is a must for any evil ruler.

Dagestanbear
Yet it looks like every third event is Apex slop

WilliamMoney
Those cards should be like Thursday night weekly cards really. Should be on free TV and start after the NFL season. If they actually remodeled and had more seating, it could be fun. Mix in current fighters with some contender series fights.

Shock Wave
Apex is where good fights go to die.

Referee Jason Herzog tells Henry Cejudo he should have taken a point from Song Yadong

We gotta call in the big guns to deal with all a dese eye pokes, see?

Nothing will change until they address the problem at the source. Not one of New York's five families fell until they could go after the guys at the top, Fat Tony Salerno, Tony Ducks, Rusty Rastelli, Big Paul Castellano, etc.
Taking points from low to mid level fighters now and then won't change anything. They need to introduce the PICO Act (Poking Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act 2025), and use it to connect Jon Jones to all of these low to mid level eye pokes. You take down Jon Jones, you take down poking.

Watch Chris Eubank Jr. slap Conor Benn in the face with an egg, start brawl

Chris Eubank Jr. Conor Benn. An egg to the face. It’s the kind of story that says what it means and means what it says.

Here’s what you all thought of it:

Cerious Jones
What a clownish move. Just be respectful, face off with the guy, get your picture taken, and move on.

fixedsys
counterpoint: slap an egg in his face

Derek_Jizzora
This was actually the perfect move by Eubank Jr. Conor Benn pissed hot and had fights canceled over it, and blamed eggs of all things. Folks started calling him Conor Hen, and he still had the audacity to talk shit despite fighting taxi drivers and busboys. I'm not a fan of Eubank Jr, but he's at least fought some decent competition and never had any steroid use controversies.
These two are from legendary boxing dads who hated each other and fought, so this is about as real of a generational beef you're ever going to see. Their dads were also some of the most legit boxers of all time. I absolutely despise Nigel Benn for crippling one of my favorite boxers, Gerald McLellan.

Jose Aldo’s return announced for UFC 315

MMA legend Jose Aldo has his next fight booked and once again it’s against a fighter creeping up the rankings as opposed to another legend. Fans were mixed on the news, with some questioning what Aldo is even still fighting for at this point.

candylei
I'm admittedly not very high on Aiemann, but this feels like a massively wasted fight for Aldo. The Martinez fight felt like a massive step down for what he deserves, but at least Martinez had an interesting stylistic clash. Nothing about Zahabi stands out, and Aldo tends to feast on those types of guys. Fights with Rob Font, Montel Jackson, or even Chris Gutierrez if he is looking to be rebooked after losing the Matsumoto fight all would make more sense.

Walker, Texas Ranger
I'm cool with the matchup.
Zahabi will stand and trade, not hold Aldo up against the cage and do nothing with it all while claiming he won a "fight" vs Aldo.

rdb85
What a waste, Zahabi is a year younger than Aldo. You either do legends fights or allow future prospects get the fight.

mrrandom77
I want to see Aldo stop fighting. I think he wants the title, but until his cardio is fixed people will just wrestle him to tire him out or put a fast pace on him in striking.

And if he hasn't improved his cardio by now I don't think it's happening.

And eventually his speed is going to take another step down. I'm surprised he's still as fast as he is considering he's closing in on 40.

With better cardio he could also mix in wrestling.

Oh well, my wishful thinking isn't going to help him win fights.
