After three years, Cain Velasquez has officially received his penalty following his initial arrest back in 2022.

On Monday, the former UFC heavyweight champion was sentenced to five-years in prison, minus time served, after pleading no-contest variety of charges including attempted murder stemming from an incident in February 2022. Velasquez went on an 11-mile high speed chase pursuing a car containing Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting the fighter’s son at a daycare owned by his mother, firing several rounds from a .40-caliber at the vehicle, striking Goularte’s stepfather Paul Bender in the arm.

Judge Arthur Bocanegra handed down the sentence to Velasquez, who gets credit for 1,283 days served including his time behind bars and house arrest — meaning the 42-year-old is slated to spend less than two years in prison.

The news led to a flurry of reactions from pro fighters, both in and out of the UFC, along with you, the MMA Fighting fans and readers.

Check out your reactions to the sentencing below.

Just a shit situation…. It’s easy for someone to say they’d be composed in that situation… if it actually happens, it’s a different story.
At the end of the day, he could have shot the driver and the driver could have veered off and hit an innocent kid.

So 2 years then? I mean given the other possibilities, this must feel like a blessing to some extent.

I think every single person - with or without kids - can understand why Cain reached the point he did, but there's just no looking past the fact that Cain's reaction seemingly endangered every single person he drove past while also literally shooting a guy who caused no suffering to the son of Cain. No judge can or should let that slide, you just can't.

Yes, Cain shot someone. I’m not excusing the act.
However, I look over at my daughter as I type this and think “What would I do if someone assaults or molests her?”
The world changes drastically when you have kids of your own.

Honestly, this is a bit of a relief. For one, this case has dragged on for years so it's a relief that it's finally over. And secondly, I was afraid the sentencing would've been much longer and his kids would grow up without a father. Regardless of whether you think justice has been served or not, you can't help but completely understand where Cain was coming from.

Cain got off light here, which is a good. If he didn't plead no contest they'd probably keep the attempted murder charge. His lawyer struck a good deal.

Honestly this is the best case scenario and I wasn't sure we would see it. He was always going to do time, but this is a short stint.

As someone who just had the heart wrenching experience of working away from my kids for a year I feel for Cain. Leaving my kids was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life and during the year away the intense feeling of missing them never went away. Everyday I had a knot in my stomach and cried after almost everytime I spoke with them.I probably would also go berserk if someone hurt or tried to hurt my kids but I also understand that the law doesn't care about that. It sucks that a good man is going to jail (good people can do crazy things) but it's understandable.

This really isn't a bad deal at all for Cain considering the other possibilities. Considering it's California he might be in a workcamp or possibly back on home confinement in no time.
