Jamahal Hill ballooned up to nearly the heavyweight limit at the start of camp for UFC 311.
Hill returns to action this Saturday when he faces fellow former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka in a highly anticipated featured clash at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif.
“Sweet Dreams” was asked about a member of his team that he cut 50 pounds during camp, which Hill confirmed — although, it may be a few more.
“It’s been smooth,” Hill said at media day. “I believe after the injury, I was like 260. A couple of times when I wanted to go test it out, to go train, it wasn’t really feeling — this was back in August, September — so I took some time and decided to just let it rest, let it heal up, and it was good decision because I’m getting good results with that.
“The weight cut hasn’t really been tough at all.”
Hill and Prochazka have been a collision course since Hill won the title Prochazka vacated at UFC 283 in January 2023. Both men dealt with serious injuries, and both enter the octagon fresh off of knockout losses to current champion Alex Pereira.
Ahead of the fight, Hill has been critical of Prochazka’s style, but when asked if he feels Prochazka’s game has changed much since his UFC debut win against Volkan Oezdemir, Hill says no much looks different, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work.
“The fight kind of ended pretty early, but his fights, his style is pretty much the same,” Hill explained. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, I guess is kind of like the thing. Obviously he’s had the losses now, but before then he had like 25-plus knockouts at the time.
“He’s proven that his style is effective, and it can be effective against the best in the world.”
