Ian Machado Garry has a little extra help for UFC 310.
This Saturday, Garry takes on Shavkat Rakhmonov in a five-round co-main event of UFC 310. It’s an important fight for Garry as a win likely puts him next in line for a welterweight title shot, and as such, Garry’s pulling out all the stops, including bringing a very special corner man with him to the event.
“I read a stat the other day: Charles Oliveira went to the fourth round for the first time in his career after his 46th UFC fight,” Garry said on his YouTube. “That’s insane! The guy is a machine! ...
“I f*cking love and adore Charles Oliveira with all of my heart. He is absolutely the most entertaining fighter in the UFC. ... Man has never been in an un-entertaining fight. He’s an absolute savage, I love him, and he’s going to be in my corner for this fight.”
A little extra help certainly won’t hurt. Like Garry, Rakhmonov is undefeated in his MMA career; however, unlike Garry, Rakhmonov has never relied on the judges to win. Rakhmonov is a perfect 18-0 in his career with 18 finishes. His impressive record has many fans believing Rakhmonov is the next welterweight champion, but come Saturday, Garry intends to end that dream, whatever it takes.
“I think God has a plan, and if God wants me to finish Shavkat, he will give it to me,” Garry said. “But I have no problem thumping it out of Shavkat for 25 minutes and making a statement. ...”
“I’m going to win, regardless of anything anyone throws me,” Garry added later. “I’m telling you now, Dec. 7, Ian Garry vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov, I’m getting my hand raised, 16-0, by any means necessary.”
If Garry manages to back up his words, he will almost certainly challenger welterweight champion Belal Muhammad next. Still only 27 years old, Garry would then have the chance to become one of the youngest champions on the UFC roster. But he has no intention of stopping there. “The Future” has big plans for himself, and they all start this weekend.
“You’re going to see that in the future because I’m going to move up to middleweight and take that belt, too,” Garry said. “I’m for sure to get a second belt. I might even go up to light heavyweight and get a third belt. Because trust me, I can do anything I want to.”
UFC 310 takes place on Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
