Kaue Fernandes gave the UFC Abu Dhabi judges a much-needed break.
After a string of finishes to start Saturday’s UFC event at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, Fernandes scored the first knockout of the night with an on-target combination that rocked opponent Mohammad Yahya.

The speedy Fernandes kept the fight standing and it paid off in a major way when he caught a lunging Yahya coming in. Two lightning-fast punches sent Yahya crumbling to the mat, and Fernandes followed with ground strikes to secure the finish 4:45 into Round 1.
Fernandes (9-2) improves to 1-1 in the UFC after dropping a split decision against Marc Diekiese in his promotional debut this past November. He has now won three of his past four fights.
Yahya (12-5) remains winless inside the octagon. The former UAE Warriors lightweight champion has suffered consecutives losses to Fernandes and Trevor Peek.
