UFC 307 just got a whole lot bigger.

Light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira returns to defend his title against Khalil Rountree Jr. in the main event for the upcoming card taking place at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Oct. 5. The co-main event pits UFC bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington against Julianna Pena with several more fights also confirmed for the October pay-per-view.

UFC CEO Dana White announced the matchups on Friday.

Pereira competes for the third time in 2024 after he vanquished ex-UFC champs Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka in consecutive fights earlier this year. Overall, Pereira has rattled off four straight wins since moving to light heavyweight including two title defenses as champion.

As for Rountree, he’s won his past five fights in a row including four by knockout with his last fight coming in a victory over one-time UFC title challenger Anthony Smith back in December 2023. Rountree has been out of action in 2024 largely due to a suspension he faced after revealing that he accidentally ingested a banned substance through one of the supplements he was taking in preparation for a scheduled bout against Hill at UFC 303.

Technically, Rountree remains under suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission after the governing body extended his temporary suspension at a July hearing after he tested positive for 5a-androstanediol, 5b-androstanediol and androsterone, which are all metabolites of DHEA — an anabolic steroid prohibited at all times for athletes.

With Rountree scheduled to fight in October, it’s likely that he’s already reached an adjudication agreement with the commission that will likely be announced at the Aug. 29 hearing in Nevada. While it’s possible that the commission could vote to reject the resolution, Rountree and the UFC must believe he’ll be cleared in time to compete in October.

In the co-main event, Pennington defends her title for the first time against Pena, who hasn’t fought since July 2022 when she lost a one-sided decision to Amanda Nunes. Overall, Pena holds a 2-2 record in her past four fights while Pennington has notched six wins in a row including her title fight victory over Mayra Bueno Silva back in January.

Additional fights announced for the card include Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson taking on Joaquin Buckley at welterweight and Kevin Holland clashing with Roman Dolidze after Chris Curtis was forced off the card due to injury.

White also confirmed several previously announced matchups including Kayla Harrison vs. Ketlen Vieira, Movsar Evloev vs. Aljamain Sterling and Jose Aldo returning against Mario Bautista.
