Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier are officially set to make history.
Ahead of their titanic lightweight championship clash in the main event of UFC 302 this Saturday, the fighters had to make weight Friday morning and they both successfully did so coming in at 155 pounds on the dot.
Makhachev can tie the UFC record for most successful consecutive lightweight title defenses (3) with a win over Poirier, while a Poirier victory would mark the longest path to an undisputed title in company history at 31 fights (Michael Bisping previously held the record, taking 26 fights to become UFC middleweight champion).

In the co-main event, Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa also made championship weight at 185 pounds for a five-round affair. Strickland fights for the first time since losing the middleweight title to Dricus Du Plessis via a narrow decision at UFC 297. On the other side, Costa looks to break out of a 1-3 slump and punch his ticket to another shot at UFC gold.
