Jamahal Hill is confident that he will soon be vindicated in regards to recent charges stemming from an alleged altercation with a family member.
On Dec. 1, it was reported that Hill had been charged with misdemeanor domestic violence in Kent County, Mich., after allegedly assaulting James Anthony Hill Jr. According to the initial report from TMZ, James is Hill’s brother.
The case is ongoing so few details have emerged from the parties involved, but Hill took a moment to address the situation in a YouTube video released over the weekend.
“There’s been a lot of reports out today about the situation that happened when I was back home in Michigan, visiting for the holidays,” Hill said. “I will just say this, at this time it is an open case. I’ve been advised not to speak on it, which I know not to speak on it.
“I just can’t wait for the truth to be told in court. I will wait for that day and I look forward to that day. The people who know me and know my character and truly, truly rock with me and know who I am, hold onto that and stay true to that. That’s all I’m a say on that.”
State prosecutors are currently charging Hill with a single count of misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence. A January court date is expected to be set soon.
Hill’s manager Brian Butler of Suckerpunch Entertainment previously released a statement to MMA Fighting commenting on the allegations.
“The recent ‘clickbait’ headlines about Jamahal Hill were based on an alleged dispute between him and his older brother,” Butler wrote. “Jamahal adamantly maintains his innocence and denies the false accusations. We will not be commenting anymore about this until the truth comes out in court.”
Hill won a vacant light heavyweight title with a one-sided decision win over Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 this past January. However, he was forced to relinquish the title six months later after suffering an Achilles tendon injury that has left him sidelined since. In his absence, Alex Pereira defeated Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 to claim the vacant championship.
