Jared Cannonier has a tough challenge for his 20th UFC appearance.
The UFC announced Friday that Cannonier (18-8) is set to fight Michael “Venom” Page (23-3) at UFC 319, which takes place Aug. 16 at United Center in Chicago. MagicM was first to report the middleweight matchup.
Cannonier, currently No. 11 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, has been with the UFC for over a decade and has competed in three weight classes. He challenged for the UFC middleweight title at UFC 276, but lost a forgettable decision to Israel Adesanya. In his past five bouts, Cannonier has gone 3-2 and is coming off of a win over Gregory Rodrigues this past February. His UFC record stands at 11-8.
A longtime welterweight contender and a former Bellator standout, Page competes at 185 pounds for the second straight time. Page made an impressive UFC middleweight debut in February, when he upset the previously unbeaten Shara Bullet.
UFC 319 is headlined by a championship bout as Dricus du Plessis defends his title against the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev.
