Jeff Molina believes justice has been served as far as he’s concerned.

On Tuesday, the Nevada Athletic Commission handed Molina a three-year suspension from competition for his involvement in a 2022 betting scandal in which he wagered on a bout involving teammate Darrick Minner at UFC Vegas 64. It was later discovered Minner was dealing with an injury that dramatically shifted betting lines in opponent Shayilan Nuerdanbieke’s favor. Nuerdanbieke quickly defeated Minner via first-round TKO.

The commission ruled that Molina was aware of the injury, failed to disclose it, and still placed a wager on the Minner-Nuerdanbieke contest. Molina’s suspension is retroactive to UFC Vegas 64, which took place in November 2022. He is eligible to compete again on Nov. 5, 2025.

Following the news, Molina responded to criticism that his suspension should have been a lifetime ban instead.

“My words were twisted here,” Molina wrote on Twitter. “I wagered on the entire card. It’s how I made extra money on the side when I wasn’t fighting and all I do is watch fights. I had wagers on both sides of the fight and my ‘significant’ bet was less than $500. The only thing I’m guilty of was continuing to wager on fights after the UFC emailed us telling us to stop.

“Getting a three-year suspension for continuing to bet two weeks after getting an email that said to stop is insane. [Conor] McGregor can post his million-dollar bet slip every month on a main event as a fighter on the roster and no one blinks an eye. Definitely a double standard there.”

Molina went on to write his total amount of wagers was only $350 for the entire event and admitted it was a mistake to bet with knowledge of Minner’s injury.

“It’s not about making it look better,” Molina wrote. “I’m saying what I did. What I completely disagree with is saying I deserve a ‘lifetime ban’ for my $350 wagers I had on the entire card. I made a mistake by continuing to wager no doubt and a three-year suspension is beyond [sufficient] but acting like 23-year-old me was this fight-fixing mastermind making millions of dollars is comical. The fact is a fighter fought injured which happens literally all the time and obviously word got out.”

Prior to his involvement in the betting scandal, Molina had carved out a niche for himself in the UFC’s flyweight division. He is 3-0 in the promotion, most recently defeating Zhalgas Zhumagulov via split decision in June 2022.

Minner received a 29-month suspension and is already eligible to compete as of this date. He and Molina were removed from the UFC roster in the wake of the scandal.

As for their head coach James Krause, the investigation into his involvement in the scandal is ongoing.
