UFC fighters Caio Borralho and Brendan Allen will collide Friday, but not inside the octagon. The top-ranked middleweights have agreed to face off in a submission match inside the Karate Combat pit in Denver, promotion officials told MMA Fighting.
Borralho vs. Allen was added just days before the event. The catchweight match will be contested in two five-minute rounds, with an extra round in case of a draw.
Allen (24-7 in MMA) competed twice in grappling matches back in 2021, defeating Gabriel Checco to bounce back from a loss to Haisam Rida. He won seven straight in the UFC after that, including five submissions over the likes of Paul Craig and Andre Muniz.
Allen lost his past to two in the UFC to drop his company record to 12-4, including a decision to Anthony Hernandez at last week’s UFC Seattle.
Borralho (17-1, 1 no contest in MMA) is riding a 17-fight unbeaten streak in MMA which includes seven UFC appearances, capped off by back-to-back bonus-winning victories over Paul Craig and Jared Cannonier. Borralho has also competed in grappling in 2021, losing to Jailton Almeida.
The 32-year-old Brazilian scored submissions in four of his 17 professional MMA wins. His onlly UFC submission was when he forced Michal Oleksiejczuk to tap to a rear-naked choke in 2023 and collected an extra $50,000 in performance bonus.
Karate Combat 53 will take place at the Walled Mat in Denver and feature Arturo Vergara vs. Jesus Lopez for the bantamweight title in the main event. The co-headliner will see heavyweight knockout artist Robelis Despaigne battling Roggers Souza.
